He married twice. He married Susannah Widener in Washington, VA, US, July 4, 1874. Susannah was born about 1851. Susannah(269) was the daughter of Samuel B Widener and Eunice "Unis" Widener. He married Mary Jane Widener July 4, 1874. Mary was born in VA, US March 1866. Mary(270) was the daughter of Samuel B Widener and Eunice "Unis" Widener. Mary died after 1900.

John David Thomas and Mary Jane Widener had the following children:
