Ralph Dean Widener, age 64, of Damascus, died Friday, March 12, 1999 in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Widener was a native of Washington County and had lived in Pocahontas for 33 years before returning to Damascus in 1991.
He retired from American Electric Power Company in 1995, was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of the American Legion. He was of the Methodist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Elwanda "Wanda" Widener; one daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca Ann and Bob Moore Jr. of Damascus; three brothers, Samuel Widener and Jerry Widener, both of Damascus, Paul G. Widener Jr. of Glade Spring; one brother-in-law, Herbert Cook; two sisters-in-law, Eula Widener and Dawn Widener; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday, March 14, at 2 p.m. in Wright's Chapel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Warren Wilson, the Rev. Harry Layell and the Rev. Gary Ritchie officiating. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Park in Damascus. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 165 E. Main St., Abingdon, VA 24210.

Elwanda Virginia "Wanda" Widener, 67, of Damascus, died Tuesday, March 8, 2005, at Bristol Regional Medical Center in Bristol, Tenn.
She was born in Chester County, Pa., and was the daughter of the late Vance and Lockie Pennington Barlow. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Dean Widener and a sister, Clara Alice Pennington.
She had lived in Pocahontas for many years prior to moving to Washington County in 1991. She was of the Baptist Faith.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca Ann and Bobby Moore of Glade Spring; two granddaughters, Taylor Brooke Moore and Lauryn Nichole Moore, both of Glade Spring; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Lillian Wyatt of Chilhowie, Polly and Willis Gilley of Marion and Betty Wylene and Bobby Coe of Sugar Grove; one brother and sister-in-law, Marvin and Renee Barlow of Bristol, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Friday evening, March 11, 2005, in the Garrett Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Gary Ritchie and the Rev. Warren Wilson officiated the ceremony. The committal service and interment will be at 12 noon, Saturday, March 12, 2005, at Sunset Memorial Park in Damascus.
