He married Margaret Wilson 1823. Margaret was born in VA, US April 13, 1803. (Additional notes for Margaret Wilson(5)) Margaret died March 19, 1857 at 53 years of age.

John Hortenstine Capt. and Margaret Wilson had the following children:

+ 19 i. Eliza Ann³ Hortenstine was born January 17, 1824.

+ 20 ii. James Wilson Hortenstine was born May 22, 1826.

21 iii. John Hortenstine was born July 1, 1828. John died November 19, 1848 at 20 years of age.

+ 22 iv. Jacob Leonidas Hortenstine was born February 1, 1831.

+ 23 v. Henry Hortenstine was born August 17, 1833.

24 vi. Susan Baker Hortenstine was born March 10, 1836. Susan died August 12, 1848 at 12 years of age.

25 vii. Edward Isaac Hortenstine⁽⁶⁾ was born in VA, US September 30, 1838. Edward died September 17, 1862 at 23 years of age.

+ 26 viii. Joel Wilson Hortenstine Maj. was born February 7, 1841.

+ 27 ix. Margaret Phoebe Sophia Hortenstine was born May 19, 1844.

+ 28 x. Mary Catherine Hortenstine was born December 20, 1847.
