116. Joseph⁸ Thomas Col. (Freelove⁷ Cole, Joseph⁶, Joseph⁵, Hugh⁴, Hugh³, Hugh², James¹)⁽¹⁵²⁾ was born in Washington, VA, US July 9, 1796. Joseph died July 11, 1840 in Smyth, VA, US, at 44 years of age.

He married Mary Thompson Morgan February 1823. Mary was born in Pittsylvania, VA November 11, 1804. Mary died December 9, 1845 in Smyth, VA, US, at 41 years of age. Her body was interred in Thomas Fam Cem, Smyth, VA, US.

Joseph Thomas Col. and Mary Thompson Morgan had the following children:

203 i. Elizabeth H M⁹ Thomas was born about 1824.

204 ii. Freelove Thomas was born about 1826.

205 iii. Susan Columbia Thomas was born October 27, 1829. Susan died July 28, 1902 at 72 years of age.

206 iv. Mary Catherine Thomas was born 1831. Mary died December 19, 1862 at 31 years of age. She married Claiborne Watkins Beatie November 9, 1859.

207 v. Evalina Minerva Thomas was born 1833. She married W W Schoolfield December 26, 1860.

+ 208 vi. John V Thomas was born May 10, 1836.

+ 209 vii. Joseph M Thomas was born December 24, 1838.
