2. Samuel Franklin² Atwell (James B¹)⁽³⁾ was born February 6, 1871. Samuel died October 11, 1955 at 84 years of age. His body was interred in Hite Cemetery.

He married three times. He married Florence Bowers. (Additional notes for Florence Bowers⁽⁴⁾) He married Mattie J Scyphers 1888. Mattie was born October 20, 1871. (Additional notes for Mattie J Scyphers⁽⁵⁾) Mattie died May 16, 1903 at 31 years of age. He married Mary Catherine Leonard February 8, 1905. Mary was born December 2, 1884. (Additional notes for Mary Catherine Leonard⁽⁶⁾) Mary died March 3, 1917 at 32 years of age.

Samuel Franklin Atwell and Mattie J Scyphers had the following children:

+ 4 ii. Scott Smith Atwell was born January 15, 1891.

5 iii. Mary Ollie Atwell⁽⁷⁾ was born June 27, 1893. Mary died May 22, 1923 at 29 years of age. She married James Mitchell. (Additional notes for James Mitchell⁽⁸⁾)

+ 6 iv. Alvin Leonard Atwell was born May 8, 1895.

+ 7 v. Callie Esther Atwell was born April 11, 1897.

8 vi. Dewey Hobson Atwell⁽⁹⁾ was born September 3, 1898. Dewey died October 16, 1969 at 71 years of age. He married Martha Hite. (Additional notes for Martha Hite⁽¹⁰⁾)

9 vii. Eunice Belle Atwell⁽¹¹⁾ was born August 3, 1901. Eunice died March 8, 1909 at 7 years of age.

10 viii. James I Atwell⁽¹²⁾ was born April 25, 1903. James died March 26, 1922 at 18 years of age.

Samuel Franklin Atwell and Mary Catherine Leonard had the following children:

+ 12 x. Coy Gilmer Atwell was born August 17, 1909.

13 xi. Kermit Hamilton Atwell⁽¹³⁾ was born August 30, 1911. Kermit died December 12, 1944 at 33 years of age.

+ 14 xii. Clifford Virgil Atwell was born March 6, 1913.

+ 15 xiii. Arel Aston Atwell was born March 21, 1915.

Samuel Franklin Atwell and Florence Bowers had the following child:
